Cypress is a tree associated with death, a tree of mourning but with an immortal soul, tracing back to a time when Cyparissus (friend of Apollo) languished in grief until he was transformed into a cypress tree by the gods. In the same way, with the petrified wood, the gods of time have transformed this piece of wood into stone by replacing each cell with quartz and with silica in a tomb of anaerobic mud. In your hands you hold a compression of past time.
